The end of Infidel is based around Ayaan and Theo's movie, submission part one. Sadly though, if you read the book or know anything about this topic or Theo, you will know that they were unable to make a part two.

Ayaan had the women tell stories that she says frequently happen in her religion. She has the women wear a transparent veil, she does this to make Allah look at the woman He has created. On each woman's torso was written the first verses every muslim must recite before prayer.

She was in paliment when she released this video, which to me, (probably since I know how it ends) seems very brave, but also a little... Niave. She could have not expected that it would go over well with her party, who weren't all entirely on her side, or to go well with her many death threats that were already steadily coming in and being found on the internet. I'm not saying she shouldn't have done it, but in hindsight, maybe she should've taken some more caution.

This is Ayaan Hirsi speaking with a news reporter, Naser Khader and Tariq Ramadan. The report is quite recent, from 2010. Here she speaks of how the muslims living in Eupore are seperate from the other religous groups.

I chose this video because it relates to the part of the book that I'm reading at the moment. In this part of the book she is working in a group for the upcoming election and at this point she is seriously doubting her religion.

Mon, 07 Nov 2011 18:22:00 -0800 Satanic Verses http://hannahsanders.posterous.com/satanic-verses http://hannahsanders.posterous.com/satanic-verses

First, I have to apoligize, this is quite a long video, and I found it so intriguing that I sat down and watched the full thing, and I'm sure I wont be the only one. Although if you have a short attention span you can watch a few minutes and realise it's quite similar to "Infedel".

This documentary is about a man, Salman Rushdie, who wrote an extremely controversial book, "The Satanic Verses", which is written to be fiction but has many similarities and references to the Muslim religion. As soon as the book was out there was a price for his death, quite similar to after Ayaan had released "Infedel".

In fact, in "Infidel" Ayaan mentions that she attended one of these book burnings from the video. She went with her teacher and husband. She goes on to say that her teacher, Sister Aziza, was "sheering and chanting" where as Ayaan herself, mentioned that "(She) felt estranged, somehow very uncomfortable." (118) This is before she is questioning her faith much, but you can see it is starting. Although, later she states that "It didnt even occur to (her) to question that Salman Rushdie should be killed: if Rushdie had insulted the Prophet, then he deserved to die." (118).

In such a well-developed country, like Canada, I think most of us really can't imagine this kind of government. The idea that someone could be killed for a book that just expresses one's opinions, or in Ayaan's case, life story and thoughts, is something that I think most of us have a hard time grasping. I'm reading this book and I sit, in my living room, or my school library, and I can't even imagine any of this, it seems surreal, and it just amazes me that this is happening.

The Lyrics:
Take the time just to listen
When the voices screaming are much too loud
Take a look in the distance
Try and see it all

Chances are that you might find
That we share a common discomfort now
I feel I'm walking a fine line
Tell me only if it's real

Still I'm on my way
(On and on it goes)
Vacant hope to take

Hey!
I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed
Grim as ever
Hold on to faith as I dig another grave
Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel
Real as ever
And it seems I've been buried alive

I walk the fields through the fire
Taking steps until I found solid ground
Followed dreams, reaching higher
Couldn't survive the fall

Much has changed since the last time
And I feel a little less certain now
You know I jumped at the first sign
Tell me only if it's real

Memories seem to fade
(On and on it goes)
Wash my view away

Hey!
I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed
Grim as ever
Hold on to faith as I dig another grave
Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel
Real as ever
And I'm chained like a slave
Trapped in the dark
Slammed all the locks
Death calls my name
And it seems I've been buried alive

Take you down now
Burn it all out
Throw you all around
Get your fuckin' HANDS OFF ME!

What's it feel like?
Took the wrong route
Watch it fall apart
Now you're knockin' AT THE WRONG GATE!

For you to pay the toll
A price for you alone
The only deal you'll find
I'll gladly take your soul

While it seems sick
Sober up quick
Psycho lunatic crushing you with
HANDS OF FATE!

Shame to find out
When it's too late
But you're all the same
Trapped inside INFERNO AWAITS!

Evil thoughts can hide
I'll help release the mind
I'll peel away the skin
Release the dark within

This is now your life
Strike you from the light
This is now your life
Die, buried alive

In this point in the book I think Ayaan could easily relate to the song, "Burried Alive", by Avenge Sevenfold, both because it explains the pain, both emotional and physical, and trying to keep a grip on  faith, a faith you question, and a faith that has been forced upon you. It explains the feeling of falling away from religion, the questioning of "why am I here?" and "what am I doing here?". Which I think Ayaan is really feeling at this point as a teen in such a strict religion.
